This is one of those topics that many trainers have different views on. I for one feels it's a personal specific preference per each of my clients. Women ask me this all the time. Should I be working out on my period? Well, it depends... You, alone knows your body...
If you have heavy bleeding, cramping and PMS symptoms that are just totally uncomfortable, THAN NO! Adding more stress to your body during your monthly cycle will only make you feel more exhausted, over taxed and too self-conscious in the gym, in a class or running. It's better to let your body do it's thing, it does know what it's doing. It's a natural process that when we take a day to just embrace the process of being women, we feel more connected to ourselves, taking the time to nurture with self care, will help to make us feel better about who we are on a mind, body & soul level.
If you are the type of woman that has very light bleeding, no cramping, and no PMS, than by all means workout, but don't go as hog wild as you normally would in BEAST MODE. Go easy on your body, do more lighter weights, reps, and keep sets to a minimum. Go for a more nurturing approach, concentrate on your body's ability to move gracefully, focus on a more deeper conscious breathing, include some light stretching and floor work to just keep in tune with your body's amazing ability as a woman to do what you do. Lessen the load, for a few days, you can always go back to BEAST MODE WHEN YOU'RE CYCLE IS DONE.
We, women are amazing beings, we can create life, birth life, nurture life and so many other things, BUT, WE HAVE BEEN TAUGHT THAT WE SHOULD DO THIS FOR EVERYONE OUTSIDE OF OURSELVES, NO MATTER HOW WE FEEL, what we're going through, and so on.... But for that few days each month, take the time to be in the moment and nurture you. YOU WILL FEEL MORE COMPLETE, CENTERED, AT PEACE, and you will REALIZE THE MAGIC THAT IS INSIDE OF YOU IF YOU CHOOSE TO LISTEN TO YOUR OWN INNER KNOWING. That is what your moon cycle brings to you. It's not something to hate of yourself, but rather to learn, embrace and used to your power, as a WOMAN! ~ pk http://www.soulfitnesshawaii.weebly.com/Like · ·
